I joined Southern’s Houston operation in May 2009. I started as a temporary employee but was soon offered a full-time position in August 2009. By starting out as a laborer, I was able to gain knowledge and experience in different workshop areas, which included welding and boilermaker skills. I’ve also worked in the field doing on-site repair work with shell and tube heat exchangers.

It’s great to be working for Southern. Every day is a challenge that allows me to learn and perfect my skills. I’m happy to be on board with such a great team!

I began my career as a CNC Programmer at Southern in June 2013.  As the CNC programmer, I help to achieve maximum utilization of our equipment and assist in design for fabrication improvements.  I started with CNC programming as a career mostly out of necessity to provide for my family.  My interest in the field grew as I became accustomed to the work, and I now enjoy it on a personal level.  I grew up in Kentucky, but I am enjoying my new life in Alabama with my wife and two daughters.  Even so, I still remain a loyal fan of the sports teams at The University of Kentucky.
I love it. This is one of the best jobs I have ever had. Everyone has been great to work with and the community is welcoming as well. This seems like a perfect fit, and it didn’t take long to get acclimated.

Position Description
SALES ENGINEER
Main Objective:
Direct and indirect sale of shell and tube heat exchangers and pressure vessels. Work
collaboratively with the outside sales team as a technical advisor and product advocate.
Serve as the primary support resource for our customers, partners and outside sales team.
Reports to: Sales Engineering Department Head

Key Responsibilities and Expected Results
• Review request for quotation requirements
• Thermal design of shell and tube heat exchangers
• Mechanical design of shell and tube heat exchangers and pressure vessels
• Cost estimate of shell and tube heat exchangers and pressure vessels resulting from
the thermal and mechanical design performed
• Prepare bid documents and pricing for proposal that result from customer supplied
inquiries
• Complete contract (purchase order) review including commercial and technical
compliance with bid documents and company policy
• Execution, distribution, maintenance and project management of customer orders
according to established company policy and procedures

• Manage customer accounts and maintain professional business relationships with
target or assigned accounts
• Travel as needed to support outside sales, customer needs, and trade show activities
• Resolve customer issues or difficulties in a manner that is consistent with the
company mission, vision, values and financial objectives

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
